Greetings,
The Houston Metropolitan Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA) is proud to present the 2019 Scholarship Awards Banquet. Since 1969, NABA has addressed the professional needs of African Americans in an effort to maximize their career potential in the accounting profession.
One of our primary objectives is to encourage and assist minority students in entering the accounting profession and the corporate environment. As a part of our program, we provide several scholarships to qualified high school seniors and college students, to assist them in continuing their education.
It is the scholarship committee’s duty to promote the scholarship and encourage students to participate in the application process. In an effort to accomplish this goal, we need your help. If you are interested in assisting with the Fiscal 2017 Scholarship Committee please contact us at community@nabahouston.org.
The NABA Houston Chapter serves as the professional mentor/advisory chapter to seven universities in the Southwest Texas and North Louisiana area. These universities are as following:
- Grambling State University
- Lamar University
- Prairie View A&M University
- Sam Houston State University
- Stephen F. Austin State University
- Texas Southern University
- University of Houston

The Student Affairs Committee led by Directors Tyler Cook and Amy Earle host resume- writing, interview skills, and officer training workshops. In addition, this committee puts great effort into preparing our students for Internships and securing a full-time position through the Annual Regional Student Conference. Accounting Careers Awareness Program
ACAP is a one-week summer residency program held on a college campus. The program introduces students to accounting, finance, economics and management through a tailored curriculum involving university faculty and guest lecturers from business and government. Prior year student participants interacted with professionals and executives from companies such as ExxonMobil; KPMG; PricewaterhouseCoopers; Emerson; Ernst & Young; Jesse H. Jones School of Business of Texas Southern University of Houston and Williams. For more information, visit the NABA Houston ACAP website.
ACAP’s goals are:

To increase the number of ethnic minority high school students that attend college and major in accounting or business related fields,

To provide educational enrichment experiences for high school students, and
-
To provide a pipeline program for directing these students to the accounting profession.
Participant Criteria
The student selection process is competitive. Students must complete the application, obtain two letters of recommendation, obtain a transcript, write an essay, and attend an interview. A maximum of 24 students will be accepted into ACAP each year. ACAP participants will have an opportunity to compete for scholarships. The participant criteria for the ACAP summer residency program are as follows:

Minimum grade point average of 2.7

Be an ethnic minority

Be a current high school student
